So many fitness questions! We’re answering a handful of them right here, right now. If you have a question, shout it out in the comments and we’ll write a post to answer it. Let’s get to it!
- How often should I be training?
It depends on your goals. In general, 150 hours of moderate intensity activity is recommended every week for health benefits and weigh maintenance. Moderate intensity, in case y’all don’t know, is when you’re a little out of breath but you can still hold a conversation with someone. At Freestyle, the rule of thumb is three classes a week to maintain your current fitness level and four classes a week if you’re looking for changes. Note – you won’t be working out at “moderate intensity” in any of our classes.
- Are crunches and sit-ups effective for targeting fat around the belly?
Nope. You know this one – you can’t spot train and reduce fat in a single area. Burning calories with intense cardio and strength training will have an all-over effect. But don’t skip the ab workout. It’s important to have a strong core and you’ll have something to show off when you start reducing body fat. And when it comes to a flat belly – it’s all nutrition. Eat right and it’ll show.
- I hit a plateau and stopped losing weight. What gives?
if you’ve being doing the same thing over and over – running, spinning, even weight lifting if you’re doing the same exercises – your body has become used to the activity. Congrats, you’re efficient. Shake things up with a Total Body or Fighter’s Physique class. They’re both designed to challenge you with difference exercises so you don’t plateau. Cool, right?
- How can I commit to my workout routine?
Group fitness classes are a great way to make a few workout buddies and build in some accountability. They’re more fun too, which means you’re more likely to stick to a consistent schedule.
