freestyle-fitness-renoTen years ago, Freestyle Fitness was one of the only gyms offering cardio kickboxing – an intense 60-minute class consisting of choreographed combos made up of punches and kicks. Every class was jammed and people couldn’t get enough of it. These days, cardio kickboxing classes are everywhere – the $10 gym up the road, the franchises, the country clubs. But beware! Any gym can slap an aerobics class on its schedule, throw in a few punches and kicks, and call it kickboxing. There is still one authentic cardio kickboxing class in town, and until you try it, you just don’t know the difference.

The key differences in a Freestyle cardio kickboxing class and just about anywhere else boil down to this:

  • Form & technique

As a fitness school within a martial arts academy, the form and technique of all our instructors is of utmost importance. Our  choreographed movements, or combos, are modified versions of the striking and kicking forms taught on the martial arts side. Many of our instructors have a martial arts background and those who don’t have been trained in proper technique for a variety of punches and kicks.

  • Music, tempo & intensity

The intensity of a Freestyle kickboxing class is legendary, and it’s not just our butt-kicking instructors bringing the heat. We choose our music carefully and we crank that pitch for a fast-paced class that gets your heart and blood pumping. But this isn’t just frantic movement for the sake of sweat and exhaustion – there is a point to everything our instructors ask you to do. More on that in the next bullet point.

  • Instructors & members

We choose our instructors even more carefully than our music, and in most cases, we pull them right from our cardio classes. That means they know this stuff before training even begins. They learn how to structure their classes, how to build combos, how to transition, how to break it down and how and when to burn it out. And our members, well, they’re awesome – full of energy and enthusiasm, pushing it until the very end.
