We wrote about group fitness versus a personal trainer a few weeks ago (spoiler: group fitness wins handily), and today we’re back to share three ways that group fitness beats the gym.
- Set classes encourage accountability.
On the surface, having a gym membership seems like a smart, versatile option. You can work out when you want! You can go in the mornings, or at lunch, or after work! But the benefit of set class times at a place like Freestyle, where we have 29 classes every week, is the accountability that they add to the equation. If you miss class, you miss out. And scheduling these classes into your schedule makes you more likely to prioritize them, and thus you’re more likely to go. When you have the luxury of pushing your workout back, you may find that you’ve pushed it back all day long, and now it’s too late to go. Bummer, right?
- You don’t need a game plan.
If you know exactly what you’re doing in the gym, that’s awesome. But maybe you kind of wander around, trying out this machine or those free weights. Maybe you do the exact same leg workout, or the same back-and-bicep routine. When you come to group fitness classes at Freestyle, you don’t need plan – because we have one for you. You’ll always be challenging your body in exciting, effective ways.
- The group experience is powerful.
If you’re the type of gym-goer who avoids eye contact and keeps your earbuds in from start to finish, you may be missing out. The group experience will surprise you – you’ll feed off the energy and motivation in the people around you, and that’s an empowering experience. There’s something to be said about commiserating with the people around you because you’re all going through the same thing.
We could argue the benefits of group fitness until we’re blue in the face, but sometimes you just need to try something yourself. So we make it easy. Try your first class at no charge and then make the call. Check out our schedule and come give this a go. We think you’ll be glad you did.
