Burning fitness question time! How important is consistency to my workouts and my fitness goals? Here’s the short answer – it’s super important. Read on for the longer, more useful answer.
Here’s the deal. Skipping lots of workout days – whether you prefer a four-days-on or an every-other-day schedule – begins to impact the health benefits of all your hard work. You probably notice how missing a class or two makes it extra painful and hard when you make it back (although sometimes a rest day or two is just what you need). But skipping workouts doesn’t just affect endurance. It’s worse than that – it’s mental.
Studies have shown that people exercise because they felt good after doing it yesterday. It makes them feel healthier and accomplished, and that’s a good feeling to have again today. Skipping yesterday’s workout, or going for long periods between workouts, has the serious potential to dull that enthusiasm – and that’s trouble.
So you kill your endurance and your motivation when you skip workouts. Guess what else happens? Injury rates rise when rest days between workouts increase.
So what’s the ideal? When it comes to staying motivated, keeping your endurance levels up and reducing your chances of injury, shoot for one to two-day breaks between workout days. Our class schedule offers days/times to accommodate just that.
