You know those people who really, truly love fitness? The kind who sincerely prefer a run over a nap? That’s our girl Erin Thran in a nutshell. She gracefully juggles a busy almost-three year old, her day job at Lululemon and her kickboxing instructor role here at Freestyle – and she grins through it all.
“I have a real passion for living a healthy, happy, active life. I love being active, whether I’m wake boarding, snowboarding, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, lifting weights, yoga or spinning!” Erin says. “I have really gotten into the community wellness side of things since I joined Lululemon and Freestyle.”
After playing year-round softball in high school, Erin needed a new way to stay in shape. “I started running and enjoyed it ONLY when it was warm outside,” she says. “I got into cardio kickboxing for my ‘winter cardio,’ and fell in love. The energy, intensity, speed, music, everything.”
Guess what – kickboxing loves her right back (and Freestyle loves her even more).
As a fitness junkie, Erin has made the rounds before settling right in an Freestyle. “I’ve been a member of quite a few gyms in town,” she explains, “and nowhere else has the support from the teachers and other members shined through. The instructors take a personal interest in you, your goals and your current physical condition. It can be a great challenge for ALL fitness levels.”
Erin’s nutrition philosophy is as on point as her fitness regiment. “Fad diets, schmad diets!” she laughs. “I really despise fad diets that come out, work for a while and it’s great; but inevitably fail. They either fail because the second you fall off the wagon your back to where you started, or because they may help you lose weight but cause other major health issues in the long run.”
Erin’s one of those “everything in moderation” people, and that’s a good person to be. “If you stay focused and plan ahead during the week, you’re allowed to indulge when you wish. As far as fitness goes, find something you LOVE. Find something you get a natural high from when you walk out. It doesn’t have to stop at the gym either, incorporate it into your home life. Get your family out on a hike once a week, dog park, whatever! Do it, and do it together. Sweat once a day!”
It’s good advice, and Erin isn’t just preaching it – she’s living it. Erin teaches our Thursday night slot at 6:30 pm and a few 6 am classes too, and we’re so excited to have her on the schedule. Come check her out – first week is always free! And hey – new fitness challenge kicks off April 18.
