There are approximately eleventy billion gyms and fitness centers and studios in Reno and Sparks and greater northern Nevada. And there’s a whole lot of attitude that comes with some of them. We think that’s a crying shame, because anyone trying to better themselves should be applauded and celebrated and high fived. But hey, good news. That’s exactly what you can expect with group fitness classes at Freestyle Fitness, right here in Reno.
If you’ve ever been on the wrong side of the stink eye when you accidentally interrupt someone’s set, or felt awkward or uncomfortable trying to follow the movements of what looks like a perfectly choreographed class, or been vibed by the front desk staff the second you walk in the door, well, allow us to apologize on behalf of the entire fitness community. That’s not how it should be. One of the things that we take great pride in at Freestyle Fitness is the sense of community. It’s almost instantaneous – rounds of applause for newbies after their first class, high fives and shout outs, an active social media community that’s heavy on praise – and none of it forced or fake. We’re just happy when people walk in the door, and while we love all the familiar faces, it’s encouraging and motivating and humbling to see new ones too. Everyone is welcome at Freestyle, and we mean everybody.
Our group fitness classes are no joke, but there’s a catch. Everything can be modified, which means you and your mom can come to class together and you’ll both break a crazy sweat without killing yourselves. Our instructors are trained to offer modifications on high-impact movements and exercises, so if you’re just not ready for jump squats, you can stick to a low-impact body weight squat. Our ground bags are too heavy? We have medicine balls in a range of weights. There is a natural progression to fitness, and we respect it. You’ll grow and adapt and improve at your own pace, on your own schedule, and as part of a community of like-minded folks who supports and celebrates your improvement.
Part of the appeal of group fitness classes in Reno or anywhere is the accountability factor. But again, that comes from a community in which you feel like you belong. At Freestyle, we notice when our usual suspects miss class. We aren’t going to harass you about it, but you’ll know that your absence is felt. And here’s the thing – when people expect you to show up, you tend to show up. It’s like having 30+ training partners – pretty motivating stuff.
Read the reviews on our Facebook page, download our Getting Started infographic, check out the classes we offer, and take advantage of our free first class. Just check out the schedule, show up early, sign a waiver, and you’re in. You can tour the school, sit in on a class, meet some instructors – whatever it takes to get you settled in. Group fitness is our thing. It has been for a very long time. And if you’re ready for an effective and fun workout in a setting that makes you feel proud about the steps you’re about to take, or the ones you’re already taking, Freestyle Fitness may be just the place.
