Workouts that Really Work – Really.

fighters-pshysique-freestyle-fitnesWe all want to be fit and healthy and strong, right? No matter how those individualized goals shake out – whether it’s knocking out fifteen perfect push ups, running a seven-minute mile, fitting into an old pair of 501s – the general theme remains the same. And in theory, how you accomplish those goals is similar too. Eat right. Work out. Rest. But let’s be real. Those are wildly generalized concepts. “Eating well” and “working out” will be different depending on who’s saying it and why. While nutrition is an important topic, let’s shelve that for another day and focus on the working out part. Because hey, it’s what we do.

Now that we’ve established that working out is going to be a critical component of our general goal of being healthy and fit, it’s time to pick your poison. Ha ha, no, we promise it won’t hurt. Much. Seriously though, a good workout regiment combines strength training with cardiovascular exercises. Or in Freestyle Fitness terms, a mix of resistance training at Total Body and/or Fighter Physique with a good ol’ fashioned helping of cardio kickboxing.

Resistance training is critical for building lean muscle to kick your metabolism into a higher gear. And a finely-tuned metabolism helps you drop extra fat. Being lean and strong is also easier on your joints, while reduced body fat has a laundry list of health benefits. Working your heart and lungs regularly with intense and consistent cardio also translates to increased health overall – you’ll release endorphins, that magical “feel-good” hormone and increase your energy levels. It’s a win-win, and with the group fitness classes offered at Freestyle Fitness, you can mix classes to suit your schedule and mood. Need to let out a freestyle-fitness-calories-burnedlittle steam? Jump into the lunchtime Fighter’s class and leave it all on the mat. Lots of pent-up energy? Burn it off – and anywhere from 600 to 800 calories while you’re at it – with an hour of kickboxing. Here’s the fine print:

  • Total Body – sixty minutes of strength training incorporating tall bags, sandbags, medicine balls, resistance bands and body weight exercises. Our trainers throw in old-fashioned calisthenics and drills to break things up and boost your heart rate, making for a class that will pump your muscles and your blood. Boom.
  • Kardio Kombat – sixty minutes of the most intense cardio kickboxing around. Freestyle set the bar for kickboxing more than a decade ago, and we’re still crushing it. Choreographed movements – punches, kicks, knees and touches – set to fast-paced, high-energy music, leaving you sweaty and exhilarated. You’ll earn that post-class protein shake.
  • Fighter Physique – thirty minutes of mixed martial arts-based exercises, this is our quick and dirty – and crazy effective – option. An intense interval class made up of five five-minute rounds with one-minute rests. People love this class.

Freestyle Fitness designed its workouts to work. you. out. Proven exercises, effective training and real results. No fad workouts here. Because the real key to that goal of health and strength we talked about earlier? Consistency. So sign up. Show up. And put up. Then do it again tomorrow.
